Natural Ventilation Product Advice:
Dehumidification
Excess airborne moisture within a building may be caused by process equipment involving water or steam emissions or by low temperatures in the likes of frozen food or chilled food storage areas. In the first case excess moisture is added to the air and in the latter case the low air temperature reduces the capacity of the air to hold moisture.
The main problem associated with high humidity is condensation on the building structure, particularly on external roofs and walls in winter.
The buildings themselves should be designed with high insulation values and thermally broken products but this is sometimes not enough and condensation still occurs.
Condensation can often be reduced or eliminated by a combination of adequate ventilation which changes the moist air for drier outside air, this incoming air may also be heated to increase its capacity to hold moisture.
Where natural ventilators are provided for summer use these can result in winter condensation problems. Bovema have a range of insulated and thermally broken ventilators which should be specified in such circumstances.
