Where mechanical ventilation systems introduce fresh air into a building some form of filtration is often desirable.
Filtration systems allow the removal of dust and external air pollutants from entering the building through the ventilation system. This may be to protect the workers or to protect the process. Food production processes may require filtration to meet the requirements of their local health and hygiene standards.
Where processes produce air borne pollutants filtration of the building mechanical air extract systems may also be required, so that dust and smells are not discharged into the atmosphere.
Filtration systems vary considerably in their requirements and take many forms:
From:
- Simple trash filters
- Impingement filters such as filter panels and bag filters, all of which trap air particles mechanically
through,
- Water spray and micro spray air washers, which wash the particles out of the air
- Electrostatic filters which collect fine particles of dust and smoke
to,
- Sophisticated air washing and chemical treatment systems which can remove odours
