Odour Control in Industry

Odour emissions from industrial plants are becoming increasingly unacceptable, particularly in urban areas. The odours can bring the plant owner into conflict with the local authority environmental health officers.

Bovema has considerable experience in the design and installation of odour reduction ventilation systems using a combination of methods and products such as:

Chimney systems where the pollutants are discharged at high level and are diluted by wind action and the ambient air before falling into occupied areas.

Mechanical air extract systems incorporating:

Air scrubbers and micro air washer systems which absorb water soluble pollutants and wash away small contaminated dust particles.

Electrostatic filters which electrically charge dust and small particles (including smoke). These are then attracted to and stick to a further oppositely charged collector plates positioned downstream of the first charged plates.

Active filtration systems using carbon or other inert media with highly absorbent characteristics. When air is passed over these materials they absorb he molecules of the odours. Such systems are easily clogged and require high quality mechanical pre-filters. they also have a high resistance to air flow and require controlled disposal or return for recycling to the manufacturer. For the above reasons electrostatic precipitators or air washers are to be preferred where appropriate.
